annie

I am in the northeast of argentina, staying with annie and her partner, who is a gaucho (an argentinian version of a cowboy) who, on bryan and I’s first night, played us old folks songs from argentina on guitar and sung to us very sweetly. their home is in the middle of the rainforest, in the middle of a massive nature reserve. annie is incredible and beautiful and seven months pregnant. I am practicing my doula skills on her, helping her around her home. today we went monkey-watching and walked around the rainforest. then we found a creek and went swimming before a quick storm came through and cooled everything down. last night I could literally see the milky way galaxy above me, a sliver of stars going from one horizon of tops of trees to the next. we have seen toucans, coatis, vultures, a wolf spider, deer, brown tufted capuchins, urakas. there are millions of insects flying around that I have never seen before and bright butterflies everywhere, taking hold in my hair and onto my clothing. annie’s patio is a haven for butterflies, and they fly up every time I walk through it to get to the dirt path in front of her home. tonight we are driving out to the waterfalls.
