walking

two summers ago, i met some crazy argentinians who snuck me into hot water springs and told me stories on a rooftop in chivay, peru. one of the stories they told me was on how to get to machu picchu without paying the absurdly high train prices to get in. me and my travel partner at the time, sam, decided to give it a go - and long bus rides, colectivos, and a beautiful walk later - we were there. this time around, with bryan, april, and tobias, we did it again. it was the craziest adventure and so so so beautiful. the walk from the hydroelctrico to the top of a mountain beyond machu picchu (and back) was well over 30 km. 30 km of train tracks, river, and andes mountains. with good company and good conversations. also!

- i saw butterflies drying their wings out on the railroad tracks after a brief, misty rain! a whole pack of them, bright red and black, hanging out.
- when walking along the railroad tracks, we heard a couple of monkeys. tobias mimicked the monkey´s sounds, and the monkey talked back. we were having a conversation!
- on the ride home, there was a full set of stars, a crescent moon, and a planet lighting up the sky. it was so bright, their light reflected onto the mountain and lit up the whole valley.

tomorrow we head to chile, then i head to cordoba to meet up with telma and the art collective there!
